First completed portrait I’ve done in a while. Gosh I’m getting rusty.

Anyhow, um yeah, I chose to draw Hugh Laurie because he is amazing and so very talented in many respects.

I am absolutely in love with the TV series House and yeah…I’d say it’s like my favorite show ever…well I dunno, perhaps there’s a show I used to like more so in comparison it might not be my favorite show ever but then again…oh…sorry, rambling again. Ok, I guess it’s safe to say it’s my favorite show right now. How’s that? Good? Ok. Moving on.

Yeah, I think House is a great show (yeah I thought we were moving on from that topic too, I guess not…ha, I think I even had myself fooled for a while there…). It’s genius I tell you. The people who produce and write that thing do a great job. I think House is a very well conceived character and Hugh is just perfect in the role. I maybe 50% of my incentive for watching the show is to watch Hugh, maybe 60, perhaps 70…80? Anyhow, it’s just a neat show to watch. I’m actually having some difficulty expressing my actually opinion/feelings about it really. Yeah. I mean, I guess it’s not all that apparent as I am doing a very good job of gushing all over it, but none of what I said is really what I meant to say…if that makes any sense at all.

Ha, I got some very good critiques on this drawing from my little brother. Great kid. I like him because he’ll never tell me my work is good when it’s not. Very, very honest. So far I don’t think I’ve managed to draw a single thing to his satisfaction, and that’s fine with me. When I was drawing this I was wondering why my Hugh looked so much older than the Hugh in the actual picture and basically why it looked so…crappy. Haha, here’s a little anecdote for you guys…

When my brother first came into my room and saw the picture he was like “Hey! It’s that guy!” and I was like, “Er, who?” “That guy, I forgot his name!” “Guess.” “Um…..*10 seconds later* DOOR!” “What the? Door?” “Well what is it? Oh! House!” “Yeah, pft…Door…” “Well I was thinking either Door or House and the show’s called House so I didn’t think he’d have the same name as the show…and at first I saw the photo and I thought it was Chef Ramsay from Hell’s Kitchen (he loved that show…)” Then he went on some tangent where he was pretending to be Meridith from “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” Weird. We’re really not related…because, obviously, I am not weird. Ahem.

Right...anyhow, I hope you enjoyed my story. Haha, I didn’t really get the logic behind the whole “Door” thing but eh…whatever. Anyhow, with my brother’s help I was able to fix that, kinda. Still crappy. But less old looking. Basically, the shading and the lines under his eyes were too dark and the rest of his skin was too light, his watch didn’t look realistic cause I had put too much highlight on it, and his hair was too long…then too short…and then apparently he didn’t have enough hair…so then I added more hair, but apparently by “hair” he meant his beard so then I had to cut the hair and add more beard. Yeah, obvious stuff which I was too ignorant to catch. Then finally he was like, “Ok stop working on it! It’s good. You can’t make it perfect or else people won’t think you drew it!”...I don’t think the last bit is an issue really. I think I just bugged him too much. Whoops.

Ok well, yeah, this is supposedly “the best Hugh Laurie picture ever” according to the site I got it off of…I was trying to find a reference photo which was “genuine” and reflected his personality but then I thought… “Wait, how would I know? I don’t even know the guy” so I just went with the best picture ever pitch…

Yeah, ok, enough enough. I’ve said enough. Sorry. Ranting too much. Um, yeah, this took I think 7 hours (with frequent interruption, I swear I can never just sit and do something, my mind’s always everywhere…while I was doing this I started like 5 other pictures) and it was done with .5 and .7 mechanical pencil…my lead kept breaking and I got frustrated. Ok the end. Sorry. Talking A LOT. I’ll shut up now. By the way, thanks if you actually suffered to read this far… I appreciate it.
